5 simple steps for a great new year

Another new, fresh faced year is upon us and with it brings good intentions and a chance to put life back on track. Whether you make resolutions or are resolute to stay as you are; with 12 new months ahead of us it’s natural to think of how you might like to spend them better. You may well let things slip back in to older, more comfortable habits as the year goes on, but maybe, just maybe, this time, the resolutions will stick.

Here are our top 5 tips to help you start 2019 as you mean to go on:

1. Eat Better

Time and imagination are somewhat lacking by the time you’ve arrived home from a busy day and the last thing you want is to have to think up some masterpiece that’s going to fulfill your 5-a-day criteria. Thankfully, Tesco have a whole host of online recipe inspiration for whatever your culinary requirements — including seasonal supper plans for every day of the week. If you’re trying Vegan-uary this month, give their Vegan chilli with avocado salad a go; it’s quick to prepare and packed with fresh, vitamin-rich ingredients and hot chillies to clear the sinuses.

2. Drink More Water

On average, it is recommended that we should drink around 2 – 2.5 litres of water every day – which is easier said than done, especially in the cold weather when you are not so aware of the need to stay hydrated. A lack of water can make you feel lethargic and your skin and hair feel lacklustre. One way to be more conscious of your H2O consumption, is to keep an eco-friendly, reusable water bottle with you. The Brita Vital Water Bottle from Sports Direct actually filters the water as you drink, reducing chlorine and other taste impairing qualities – find it in the accessories section at Sports Direct.

3. Get Active

Put down your phone, and get outside. It might be scary, it might be hard, but we all need to move more. Getting the right gear in the first place can help you to feel more confident if you are just starting out. These Womens Grey Marl Mesh Leggings from Peacocks sportswear range will make you look like a pro, even if you’re not entirely sure what you are doing.

4. Be more organised

Writing lists often and regularly is one key to staying organised; why not make a list of all the things you would like to achieve this year, and then number them in order of priority. Buying a blank diary or notebook is a good place to start. We love this personalised ‘Things I’ll do in 2019’ slim line diary from Card Factory. You can personalise it with your own words and photos – perfect if you’re trying to inspire someone else to become more organised this year.

5. Be kind to yourself

Taking the time to be kinder to ourselves is something we should all work to be better at. Whether it’s taking 10 minutes in the morning for quiet meditation or running yourself an indulgent bubble bath before bed, there are tiny things that we can do each day to be kinder to ourselves. Giving your body a boost of vitamins and anti-oxidants can help to support an active lifestyle and prevent colds. Try adding some of this Naturya Turmeric Blend from Holland & Barrett to your morning smoothie for an easy way to add some nutrition to your daily routine.
